Norte's Youth Council, called Liderato, consists of 26 kids from multiple schools in Northern Michigan. For 2022, the Council has come up with an ambitious and, frankly, very cool community service project. The Council will be planning, organizing, and leading bike mechanic classes at schools and other public community places in our region. These mechanic classes will teach community members how to change flat tires, adjust brakes and gears, and how to take care of their bikes to keep them rolling.

In the interest of equity, these classes will be free to the public. In Northern Michigan area, many folks don't use bicycles as their main means of transportation because of flat tires, poor shifting, or bad brakes. Fixing these issues can be expensive for many families. By teaching kids and adults alike in our classes how to perform these repairs (using tools at our Wheelhouse - for free!) our community members will be empowered to keep using bicycles as their main source of transportation. We see more kids riding to school, more adults riding to work, and a healthier, more active communities across our region.

Support Norte's youth council and encourage bicycling in Northern Michigan!
Nobody just yet.
