The Summer Cycling Program will encourage individuals of all ability levels to share in the joys of riding bikes. PEAC is raising funds to purchase 1 fixed gear recumbent that would teach the pedaling motion and increase endurance for students while they gain confidence in a cycle.

Currently, PEAC has 5 summer cycling program sites planned throughout Southeast Michigan: Dearborn, Dexter, Saline, Willow Metropark, and Ypsilanti. The 5 sites will include between 24-30 students per site which will result in 120-150 individuals riding bikes. They expect to create more riders out of the program through individualized training and adaptive equipment.

At the beginning of the program, each student develops their personal cycling goal. This goal can be as simple as wanting to increase endurance to as advanced as wanting to learn how to ride a bike as their mode of transportation from home to work. Each goal is treated with respect, and staff create objectives to support the goal. Additionally, equipment is used to support students in their goal. The fleet of equipment includes 2-wheels, upright tricycles, recumbent tricycles, handcycles, tandems, and more highly adaptive bikes. Our team of mechanics is able to customize equipment to fit the needs of each student. With the support of the structured classes, staff encouragement, and inclusive equipment, more people will be able to enjoy the thrill of riding, for whatever purpose they desire, transportation, exercise, recreation and bonding with loved one.
