Fundraising Tips

It all starts with why you are participating or raising money. Take time to understand what is motivating you. Then personalize your fundraising page. Include a picture of yourself with a big smile. Add links to your Instagram and other social media pages. And most importantly, share in your own voice why you are helping LMB. People are giving to support LMB and YOU!
Some people just ask everyone, and that has always worked. If you like to be more systematic make a list of everyone you know, not just those you think will give. You’ll be surprised by some of the people who step up to support your effort.
Let everyone know about your goal, why your motivated, and your deadline. If you created a list, send them a personal email with a link to your fundraising page. Place a picture with a link to your fundraising page on your social media and invite them to visit your page to read your reason and to support your effort.
With your heart. There are no power words and phrases. Be sincere. Share why you’re motivated to fundraise. Ask everyone, smile, ask in person, ask on your social media pages. Hitting your goal is done $1 at a time. Don’t be afraid to ask big, and be grateful for the $1. Make it fun.
If you've never been a fundraiser, it can feel a little stressful. That's normal for most people. Most who have pushed past those jitters come to understand how rewarding it is to see the love and encouragement that comes to them. People give out of support and respect for you first, then the cause. If the thought of fundraising is overwhelming, then it may be better for you to be the donor and not the fundraiser!
Once you've asked someone directly for a donation through email or in person, respect their answer. If you've asked on social media then asking once every week should be plenty.
Using the same channels that worked in asking for donations, tell everyone how your fundraising drive is doing and share the actions you’re taking to meet the challenge. Keep it light, for example, you could post a picture of your trainer with - “just finished a grueling 1-mile ride in my basement”. People like to see you succeed!
Congratulations! You should feel good on doing a good deed. If you set up your donation page, then they will get a thank you note from LMB and a donation receipt. If you know your donor, take a moment and send them a thank you note. You want to acknowledge the gift and leave the door open for future contributions. You may end up enjoying fundraising and decide to do it again!
This is the fear that keeps many people from fundraising. It happens and it's not personal. Take a breath and feel good that you have put yourself out there! You have done more than 90% of those around you just by trying. Thank you!

Now, take a few minutes to review your fundraising page. Do you have a picture of you smiling or having fun? Is your personal message on the page positive? Did you put a link to your page on your emails and social media posts? Are your messages in your own words? If you answered no to any of the above then take a minute to fix them. If it's been less than a few days since you asked, be patient. If it's been a week since you asked, and your ready, post a progress report on social media in a fun and encouraging message.
This is the number one reason people are afraid to fundraise. The fear of being told no. The most important thing to remember is that while you have made a personal decision to fundraise, it's not a personal rejection when people don't give. Think about all the times you've been asked to donate to others and their cause. When you chose not to give, it was quick and hardly a thought. That will happen to you, and it won't be personal. With today's modern fundraising sites like this one, you can reach hundreds, maybe even thousands without insult. Just ask with passion and you may be surprised!
